As otolaryngologists, we often come across patients with otitis externa. Most are straightforward to treat but some are challenging and recalcitrant. This chapter provides some timely diagnostic, prognostic and treatment updates for common auricular diseases. I particularly liked the differentials highlighted by the author that one must consider when dealing with rashes like contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, discoid lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, sarcoidosis, seborrheic dermatitis, vitiligo and how not to miss the premalignant conditions like basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. The author also gives some useful tips on steroid and non-steroid agents that could be considered in treating these conditions.
